Absentee Voting

The Clerk is responsible for coordinating election activities in Lisbon, including registration of voters, maintenance of voter records, issuance of absentee ballots, training poll workers, and is Lisbon's Chief Election Official.

Are you away at school or going out of town during an election?

What is Absentee voting?

Voting an absentee ballot is a convenient and safe option for casting your ballot. In Wisconsin, any registered voter may cast an in-person absentee ballot at their local Clerk's Office, or may cast their absentee ballot by mail. Keep reading to find out more about this secure and convenient way to exercise your right to vote!

How do I request an Absentee Ballot?

Simply visit MyVoteWI or the Clerk's Office to fill out the form & submit a copy of an acceptable photo ID, and you can have a ballot mailed to you. If you need to update your registration info due to a move or name change, you can take care of both at the same time!

How do I return a completed Absentee ballot?

Due to the recent Court rulings, please note that Absentee Ballots CANNOT be turned in using Drop Boxes. Absentee voters have three* options to return their completed ballot:

1. BY MAIL: The absentee voter* places the completed ballot in the U.S. Mail.
2. HAND-DELIVER: The absentee voter* personally delivers their completed ballot to the Clerk's Office during regular office hours.
3. ELECTION DAY: The absentee voter* personally delivers their completed ballot to the Chief Election Inspector at their regular polling place before the polls close at 8:00p.m.

What about Early Voting?

Wisconsin doesn't have true "early voting" where you can cast your ballot and insert it into the counting machine (called a tabulator) ahead of Election Day. Instead, we have something called "In-Person Absentee Voting." Any registered voter in Wisconsin can fill out their ballot in their local Clerk's Office during the 14 days prior to each election. Once you've filled out your ballot, you will seal it inside the "Certificate Envelope," sign it as the voter, and give to the Clerk or Deputy Clerk. The Clerk or Deputy will sign as your witness, and then place the sealed ballot in a secured location - along with all the absentee ballots that have been returned by mail - for safekeeping until Election Day. On Election day, the Clerk delivers the absentee ballots to each polling place to be counted.
